JOB TITLE:

Director, Human Resources

JOB PURPOSE:

Assist the Associate Vice President of Human Resources (HR) in the daily administration of HR units, management team, services, and strategic operations as directed or assigned. This position will work closely with the HR management team and provide professional leadership and development to each unit within the University's HR structure (Talent Acquisition, Learning & Development, Employee Relations, Classification and Compensation, Records, Benefits & Wellbeing, Inclusivity, etc.). Additionally, this position will oversee maintaining of compliance with programs, employment laws, benefit administration, personnel policy/procedure development, and selection, on/offboarding, training, and evaluation of staff and will serve in an advisory and consultative capacity to UW administrators, faculty, and staff in the interpretation and application of HR related laws, rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develop, interpret, and recommend program goals and objectives, practices, procedures, and courses of action for designated HR functions.
  • Provide direction, counsel, and decisions for the human resources staff to ensure the use of best practices and process improvement in their respective function.
  • Identify opportunities and needs; develop and execute solutions.
  • Oversee employee relations unit and respond to employee relations issues by interpreting policies and procedures for employees, ensuring compliant investigations, identify corrective actions needed following complaints.
  • Collaborate with staff and constituents to respond to complex and escalated requests and issues.
  • Monitor and ensure organization compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations; review and recommend policy and practice modifications, as needed, to ensure and maintain compliance.
  • Complete timely and accurate filing of all personnel-related reports required by local, state, and federal agencies. Will be required to build and manage complex reports and tracking. documents to translate data into meaningful metrics, KPI to aid in decisions and determinations.
  • Work closely with all segments of the campus community and develop collaborative relationships, both internally and externally, to effectively deliver HR services.
  • Serve on University committees and advisory groups as needed.
  • Remain up to date on HR and labor-related trends, laws, and best practices.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

REMOTE WORK ELIGIBILITY:

This position provides vital support to campus customers and requires the successful candidate to be available to work on campus.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor's degree

5+ years of progressively responsible HR experience or related experience required.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Master's in related field or Juris Doctorate preferred.

A nationally recognized human resource-related certification such as PHR (Professional in Human Resources), SPHR (Senior Professional in Human Resources), SHRM-CP (Society for Human Resource Management-Certified Professional), or SHRM-SCP (SHRM Senior Certified Professional) is preferred.

Leadership experience in human resources.

Functional or leadership with federal and state regulatory compliance including worker's compensation, unemployment, COBRA, FMLA, ADA, FLSA, Affordable Care Act, and Title IX that includes a comprehensive knowledge of HR policies, procedures, laws and trends.

Demonstrated project management and/or change management expertise.

Excellent communication skills.
