JOB TITLE:

Upward Bound Summer Program 2024 Dorm Director

JOB PURPOSE:

Provide adequate and appropriate supervision of residential staff and project participants residing in the residence halls;

Excellent verbal, interpersonal, and written communication skills;

Demonstrated mediation and conflict resolution skills;

Ability to maintain confidentiality;

Dates of summer program (including training) are May 29th-July 2nd 2024

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

- Reside in the UW residence halls 7 days a week for the duration of the summer program May29th-July 2nd 2024

* Act as a liaison between summer residential staff and UB/UBMS professional staff.

* Attend residential group check-in sessions led by the Participant Success Navigator or Academic Liaison.

* Maintain confidentiality of residential staff and participant interactions, unless incidents occur requiring a duty to report.

* Plan and lead weekly residential meetings.

* Plan and conduct weekly individual team leader meetings.

* Attend and actively participate in weekly meetings with UB/UBMS professional staff.

* Develop residential staff rotation schedules for days off, dorm duties and supervision of floors, and night/morning supervision.

* Be a positive role model for participants and team leaders.

* Create and manage a system to control check-out sheets for vehicles, UB/UBMS equipment, and participants' car keys or other items as needed.

* Collect and turn in medical reports, violation notices, and any other relevant paperwork as requested by UB/UBMS professional staff.

* Determine appropriate usage of vehicles and maintain at least one vehicle at the residence hall at all times for emergency use while adhering to the summer program transportation schedule.

* Assist residential staff with floor coverage and any supervision issues.

* Actively communicate with UB/UBMS professional staff regarding residence hall issues. Seek their counsel in resolving new and/or difficult questions or situations.

* Coordinate and assist UB/UBMS professional staff with dorm clean-up and inventory of all materials to stored at the conclusion of the summer program.

* Plan, coordinate, and oversee residential activities including, but not limited to, workshops, weekend events, and social/recreational activities.

* Communicate participant absences or tardiness with the Academic Coordinator by 8am daily.

* Set up medical appointments for participants and make arrangements for Team Leaders to escort the participants to UW Student Health or another office if appropriate.

* Actively support participants' academic success, including, but not limited to, periodically attending classes, mentoring, and assisting with and monitoring completion of homework.

* Perform other responsibilities as assigned by UB/UBMS professional staff.

REMOTE WORK ELIGIBILITY:

This position provides vital support to campus customers and requires the successful candidate be available to work on campus.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Senior standing at the undergraduate level; student in good academic standing

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor's degree

3.0 cumulative undergraduate GPA or higher

- Proven ability to lead and supervise the UB/UBMS summer program residential team

- Ability to be on-call to respond to and resolve residential staff and participant issues evening and weekends for the duration of the summer program

REQUIRED MATERIALS:

- Successful criminal background check necessary for working with minors is required

- Current certification in First Aid and CPR is required and will be provided during the week of training.
