JOB TITLE:

Technician, Master

JOB PURPOSE:

The Electrical Engineering and Computer Science (EECS) Department at the University of Wyoming is seeking a skilled and motivated Electrical/Computer Engineering Technician to join our dynamic team. As an Electrical/Computer Engineering Master Technician, you will play a crucial role in supporting the teaching and research activities of the department. You will work closely with faculty, students, and researchers to ensure the smooth operation of laboratory facilities and assist with various technical tasks.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Supervise and participate in the maintenance of the EECS Department's undergraduate teaching labs. This includes regularly scheduled preventative maintenance where all the equipment in each lab is checked on a regular schedule. Make sure that shop personnel are available to do on the spot repairs or equipment exchanges for problems during labs. Maintain proper inventory of parts to support the labs. Coordinate with the faculty and TA responsible for each lab to see that the type and number of components to do the labs are in stock

Assist EECS faculty and graduate students with research related electronic problems

Support the undergraduate senior design course. Provide training in use of test equipment and tools. Assist students with design problems, component choice and final product construction.

Assist in the design, fabrication, and assembly of printed circuit boards for senior design students, graduate and faculty research. This is accomplished with the use of an in-house printed circuit board fabrication facility.

Supervise the operation of the EECS electronics shop. This includes setting priorities, planning work schedules, assigning duties, and training new student workers (work studies and part-time) to perform their jobs.

Work with students, faculty, and staff within CEPS and WYGISC on drone aircraft construction and operation, including acquiring credentials to permit drone aircraft operation as per FAA regulations.

Assist people outside the EECS Department with their electronic problems. Design and fabricate printed circuit boards for other departments in the college for their research and undergraduate teaching labs. Work is done for other colleges on campus, e.g. repairing equipment. Fabricate printed circuit boards for entities across the university. Occasionally assist people outside the university.

Serve as the department's Chemical Safety Coordinator. The duties are to maintain a file of Materials Safety Data Sheets for all the chemicals in the department, including all across the counter products, hand soaps, cleaners, glues, aspirins, etc. Make sure all chemicals stored in the department

REMOTE WORK ELIGIBILITY:

This position provides vital support to campus customers and requires the successful candidate be available to work on campus.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education: Associate's degree in a related field, or completion of related technical or vocational education/training

Experience: 9 years work-related experience in the design, construction, fabrication, repair and maintenance of mechanical or electronic equipment or systems

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Previous experience working as an electrical/computer engineering technician or in a similar role.
  • Experience with programming languages and software tools commonly used in electrical engineering.
  • Knowledge of printed circuit boards (PCB) development.
  • Familiarity with relevant industry standards and regulations.
