The successful candidate will be a graphic design intern on HDR's Virginia/DC/Maryland Strategic Communications team. The successful candidate is a visual storyteller who demonstrates excellent creative and communications skills. The ideal candidate stays current with the latest design resources, communicates clearly, and has excellent attention to detail. The ideal candidate will have an excellent sense of design principals, including color, layout and ability to create visually solid messaging as well as excellent written and verbal communication skills. The ideal candidate will be proficient in Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign & Illustrator, specifically). Please note that a portfolio of relevant design work is required for consideration.

Primary Responsibilities

In the role of Graphic Design Intern, we'll count on you to:

* Support the local and national Strategic Communications team in developing compelling, professional visual designs that informs and educates clients, stakeholders and the public

* Create, revise, ad update a wide range of deliverables including but not limited to exhibits, flyers, infographics, print advertisements, direct mailers, reports, maps/wayfinding graphics, social media graphics, email campaigns, presentations, style guides, stylized templates for long documents, logos, and assets for digital engagement and video production teams.

* Ensure quality control through approval of proofs and review of materials

Required Qualifications

* Must be currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program

* Attention to detail a must

* Must possess strong problem-solving and communication skills

* Basic Microsoft Office skills

* An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a must

Preferred Qualifications

* Prefer 2 years completed toward degree with a minimum of a 3.0 GPA

* While not required, experience in any of the following creative skillsets are of interest

* Video editing and/or animations

* Photo simulation/Visualizations (2D/3D)

* Local candidates are strongly preferred
